The 1968 Chevrolet Impala convertible, initially procured from Daniels Chevrolet in Colorado Springs, Colorado, found its way into the seller’s lineage in 1989, courtesy of the seller’s father, and transitioned into the seller’s possession in 2014. Cloaked in a resplendent red with an accompanying white vinyl interior, this classic beauty is propelled by a replacement 396ci V8 engine, harmonized with a three-speed automatic transmission. Augmenting its allure are a white convertible top, Rally-style 15″ wheels, dual exhaust, power-assisted brakes, and a cassette stereo system. The seats have been reupholstered, and both the distributor and rear springs have been substituted in anticipation of the sale. This Impala convertible is presently available with a Protect-O-Plate, manufacturer’s literature, spare parts, and a pristine Colorado title under the seller’s name.
Resplendently repainted in red under its previous custodian, the vehicle showcases a white convertible top. Noteworthy elements include black side moldings, quad headlights, Impala insignia, a driver-side mirror, and a dual exhaust system. The gallery below reveals minor paint imperfections scattered around the car.
The Rally-style 15″ wheels are adorned with trim rings and center caps, complemented by Escort 3000 S/R thin-whitewall tires sized at 225/75. Braking prowess is delivered through power-assisted drum brakes. In May 2024, the rear springs were replaced.
The front and rear bench seats, reupholstered in white vinyl in 2024, feature amenities such as a heater, a Jensen cassette stereo, and lap belts. The dashboard bears a crack beneath its cover.
The three-spoke steering wheel faces a horizontal 120-mph speedometer, a fuel level gauge, and a non-functional analog clock. A trio of Auto Gage auxiliary gauges, monitoring coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage, was installed beneath the dash in May 2023. The five-digit odometer reflects 4,000 miles, approximately 2,000 of which were accrued under current ownership. The total mileage remains indeterminate. The seller notes that the shift indicator is misaligned by one gear, and the fuel gauge is inoperative.
The 396ci V8, reputedly a replacement installed in 1968, is complemented by a Champion aluminum radiator. In 2023, the #8 spark plug wire and additional wiring were replaced, along with the alternator. The distributor was replaced in 2024.
The engine stamping is illustrated above. The “CE8” prefix corresponds to a factory replacement short block fabricated in 1968.
Power is conveyed to the rear wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission, with the transmission fluid having been refreshed in March 2023.
