This 1926 Chevrolet Superior is a Series V touring car originally sold by Foley Chevrolet Motor Sales in Newark, New Jersey. It underwent refurbishment by a previous owner before the current seller acquired it in April 2021. The car boasts a burgundy finish with black fenders, complemented by black vinyl upholstery, and is powered by a 171ci inline-four engine, overbored, paired with a three-speed manual transmission. Notable features include 21″ wood-spoke wheels, a black soft top, cowl lamps, glass wind wings, aftermarket box taillights, and a wood-rimmed steering wheel with a “fat man” tilting hub. The sale includes original sales documentation, tools, spare parts, a black rear-seat tonneau cover, car show awards, and Rhode Island registration in the seller’s name.
The Chevrolet Superior debuted in 1923 with the Series B, receiving annual updates until it was replaced by the Series AA Capitol in 1927. The Series V, introduced in mid-1926, was available in six body styles. Enhancements from the preceding Series K included a connecting bar for the drum-shaped headlights. This model features a burgundy finish with black fenders, front and rear bumpers, cowl lamps, glass wind wings, running boards with step plates, a black soft top, a fuel cap with an inset Marvel fuel gauge, a central taillight, and aftermarket box taillights. A black rear tonneau cover is part of the sale. The gallery shows paint bubbles on the passenger-side bodywork, with some exterior photos dating back to 2021.
The car’s wood-spoke wheels have Chevrolet-branded center caps and are fitted with older 4.40/4.50–21 Denman whitewall bias-ply tires, which show sidewall cracking. A spare rim and tire are mounted at the rear. The Chevrolet Superior has a 103″ wheelbase and features semi-elliptical leaf springs at all four corners, with rear mechanical drum brakes providing stopping power.
Inside, the cabin has front and rear benches covered in black pleated vinyl, along with matching door panels and carpets. A fire extinguisher is installed on the passenger-side firewall.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel, mounted on a tilting “fat man” hub, sits in front of a steel dash with an AC barrel-type speedometer, a trip odometer, an ammeter, and an oil-pressure gauge. The five-digit odometer reads 17,000 miles, with approximately 200 miles added by the current owner, though the total mileage is unknown.
The 171ci inline-four engine was reportedly rebuilt and overbored by .040″ in 1989. A Wolf Whistle horn is installed under the hood, and a new ignition coil was fitted in 2023. Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a three-speed manual transmission.
